Matt Johnson and Tori Powell to appear at Auburn Elementary for Planting Progress project
Star football & soccer players join team of Virginia Tech students addressing food insecurity issues
[Blacksburg, VA, April 3, 2023] Triumph NIL athletes Matt Johnson and Tori Powell will join a group of Virginia Tech students visiting Auburn Elementary on Monday, April 3 to build a community garden. After extensive research, surveys and interviews with local health and education experts, Planting Progress was formed to address the high overall rating of youth health and food inequity. As a part of the project, the group of students from Virginia Tech will work with elementary-aged students to build community gardens, teaching them about the benefits of growing your own food and choosing healthy options.
The group is accepting donations to further their work through a GoFundMe page. The group has already exceeded their initial goal of $2500. Having crossed the $3000 threshold, Planting Progress has funding for six community gardens.
